A new, innovative, and thought-provoking drama with an underlying animal rights theme.
About The Stageplay
Readings/workshops of earlier drafts of the stageplay were done at the Fort Mason Center in San Franciso, CA, on August 26, 2006 and August 11, 2007. The feedback from the limited circle of people who read those two earlier drafts was very positive. One of the actors became a vegetarian after reading the stageplay.
An earlier draft of the stageplay was also entered in the New Works of Merit Playwriting Contest in New York, NY, and it received an Honorable Mention award in 2006 (http://www.playwritingcontest.cjb.net/prior-contests.php).
The Dedication . . .
While the author had numerous influences he chose three that had a particularly significant impact on this work.
Shelby, July 2009 (4 months to age 16!)
1.) Shelby, a particularly loving and gentle canine. Weeks after she was born she was called "Nanny" due to her tendency to take care of her siblings. This tradition continued with her 1 puppy litter in 1996, in which Ivy was born (Ivy's picture is shown below).
Please note that a number of the qualities we admire in our pets are shared by the animals people eat; in some countries Shelby & Ivy would be considered food.
Ivy, July 2009
2.) Gail Eisnitz for her seminal work "Slaughterhouse". The author read it in 1998 but the latest edition is dated 2006. It's available at the link below . . .
3.) J.R. Hyland for her seminal work: "God's Covenant with the Animals". The author read it around 1998/1999 when it had a different title, and the latest version is dated 2000. It's available at the link below . . .
